Our Care Philosophy

A survey by the Philippine Society for Pediatric Urology in 2024 noted that there are only twenty-one (21) practicing and accredited pediatric urologists in the Philippines.

According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, there are 37.95 million Filipinos aged  0 to 17.

This means that there is one pediatric urologist for every 1.8 million Filipino children.

While many conditions of the urinary tract and genitals can be treated with expertise by other doctors--including pediatric surgeons and general urologists--Filipino children deserve specialized care when it comes to complex pediatric urologic conditions. These include neurogenic bladder, complex genital reconstruction, prenatal hydronephrosis, and congenital malformations of the urinary tract.

Many Filipino children with these conditions will not meet a pediatric urologist in their lifetime.

What are we doing to bridge this gap?

1. We bring the information and care to Filipino families at home. While many conditions will need an appropriate in-person visit and physical examination, many others may be managed remotely with the advent of telemedicine.

Children's Urology Clinic PH, since starting in early 2025, has catered to the concerns of Filipino children in different regions, for conditions like Bladder Bowel Dysfunction and recurrent Urinary Tract Infections.

We also hold free online seminars for parents and families on various urologic topics.

As our website and network grows, we hope to provide more care and resources to patients with difficult and chronic conditions like neurogenic bladder and spina bifida.

2. We train more medical professionals to deal with pediatric urology concerns. Through social media and continuing medical education (CME) for non-urologic professionals, we are already taking steps to equip more physicians and health providers with basic information about pediatric urologic concerns.

3. We seek to expand opportunities for pediatric urologic training. Along with other member physicians of the Philippine Society for Pediatric Urology, we encourage more trainees to specialize in pediatric urology, which continues to grow as a subspecialty. We also continue to keep up with advancements in pediatric urology regionally and further abroad.

What's the goal?

The goal is for knowledge on pediatric urologic conditions to be as widespread as knowledge of appendicitis and gallbladder issues, which many Filipinos across the islands recognize.

The goal is for more medical professionals to be able to recognize and treat simple pediatric urologic conditions at the primary care level. For instance, bladder and bowel dysfunction continues to be the most common reason for consultation and referral, but initial management for this condition may already be done by primary physicians with good relief of symptoms.

The goal is for Filipino families to feel supported, both by professionals and by other families, when dealing with complex and chronic conditions.

The goal is for Filipino children with urologic problems to have access to online care, no matter their region, and to be able to reach out to the nearest specialist in person through our network.

Help us to spread awareness and education.
